Stone carpet: 2026 price per m², pros, cons and installation
A stone carpet is a mix of washed natural stones (usually marble, 4–8 mm fraction) and clear resin, trowelled in place on site. The result is a seamless, lightly textured surface that looks like a pebble beach — and works on terraces, walkways, stairs and even bathrooms.
How much does a stone carpet cost in 2026?
| Application | Indicative price installed |
|---|---|
| Pedestrian areas (terraces, walkways, balconies), 8–10 mm | CZK 1,200–2,000/m² |
| Driveable areas (driveways), 12–16 mm | from CZK 1,800/m² |
| Stairs (surcharge for edge shaping) | +30–50% on the m² price |
| Priming / levelling an old substrate | CZK 100–400/m² by condition |
Prices excl. VAT. The stone type (local marble vs Italian pebbles), layer thickness and resin quality make the difference.
Key advantages
- Seamless: no joints = no weeds, ants or crumbled grout.
- Water-permeable: the open outdoor structure lets rain soak through — no puddles and a fast-drying surface.
- Anti-slip: the textured surface grips even wet — ideal around a pool.
- Renovation without demolition: lays directly over old concrete, terrazzo and sound tiles — saving demolition and debris removal.
- Frost resistance and lifespan: a quality system lasts 15–20+ years.
- A custom look: dozens of stone colours, patterns and transitions.
Drawbacks worth talking about
- Cheap resins yellow: outdoors a UV-stable polyurethane is a must; epoxy belongs indoors only. This is where people save most — and spoil most.
- The substrate decides: the carpet copies its base — cracked or crumbling concrete must be repaired and primed first.
- Maintenance: an occasional pressure wash; in permanent shade moss can appear, as on any outdoor surface.
- Point loads: sharp edges (scaffold feet, props) can damage the surface locally — repairs, though, are local and invisible.
Installation step by step
- Substrate assessment: strength, flatness, a 1–2% fall away from the house.
- Preparation: crack repair, grinding, epoxy primer with quartz broadcast.
- Mixing stone + resin in an exact ratio.
- Trowelling in one layer; on stairs the edges are shaped flush or with a profile.
- Curing: walkable in 24 hours, fully loadable in 3–7 days by weather.
A 30 m² terrace including preparation typically takes us 2–3 days.
